أفاد موقع "أكسيوس" الأميركي، أنّ كبير مستشاري الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن لشؤون الشرق الأوسط، بريت ماكغورك، سيسافر خلال الأسبوع الحالي، إلى السعودية للقاء كبار المسؤولين الفلسطينيين، ومناقشة الدور الفلسطيني في اتفاق تطبيع محتمل بين الرياض و"إسرائيل" برعاية واشنطن.

ونقل "أكسيوس" عن مصدر أميركي قوله إنّ "إدارة بايدن تأمل في التوصل إلى تفاهمات واقعية مع الفلسطينيين"، مشيراً إلى أنّ ماكغورك سيلتقي بامين سر اللجنة التنفيذية، حسين الشيخ، ورئيس المخابرات الفلسطينية اللواء ماجد فرج، والمستشار الدبلوماسي لعباس، مجدي الخالدي.

وستكون برفقة ماكغورك، كبيرة الدبلوماسيين في وزارة الخارجية لشؤون الشرق الأوسط باربرا ليف، التي التقت بمسؤولي السلطة الفلسطينية في عمان الأسبوع الماضي، وهو اجتماع وصفه مصدر فلسطيني بأنه كان متوتراً، بحسب الموقع الأميركي.

وأورد "أكسيوس" أنّ المسؤولين الفلسطينيين، أخبروا ليف خلال اجتماعهم، أنّهم يريدون أيضاً أن تعترف الأمم المتحدة بفلسطين "كدولة كاملة العضوية"، وبدورها ردّت بالقول، إنّ اعتراف الأمم المتحدة "ليس مطروحاً، الأمر الذي خيب آمال مسؤولي السلطة الفلسطينية".

The American website "Axios" reported that the senior Middle East advisor to the US President, Joe Biden, Brett McGurk, will travel to Saudi Arabia this week to meet with senior Palestinian officials and discuss the Palestinian role in a potential normalization agreement between Riyadh and Israel under Washington's sponsorship.

Axios cited a US source as saying that the "Biden administration hopes to reach realistic agreements with the Palestinians," noting that McGurk will meet with the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee, Hussein Al-Sheikh, the head of Palestinian intelligence, Major General Majid Faraj, and Abbas's diplomatic advisor, Majdi Al-Khaldi.

Accompanying McGurk will be Barbara Leaf, the senior diplomat at the State Department for Middle East affairs, who met with Palestinian officials in Oman last week, a meeting described by a Palestinian source as tense, according to the American website.

Axios also reported that Palestinian officials told Leaf during their meeting that they also want the United Nations to recognize Palestine as a "full member state," to which she responded that UN recognition "is not on the table," disappointing Palestinian Authority officials.
